Hyderabad: Maoist surrender in Mulugu took place on Thursday as two CPI (Maoist) cadres laid down arms before police, influenced by CRPF outreach and Telangana’s rehabilitation policy.
The surrender occurred in the presence of Eturnagaram Assistant Superintendent of Police Manan Butt, IPS. It formed part of the “Poru Kanna Ooru Minna – Mana Ooriki Tirigi Randi” awareness campaign, which focuses on tribal welfare and reintegration.
Police identified the surrendered Maoists as Kudiyam Pandu alias Karthik and Muchaki Mangal. Both belong to Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. Pandu worked with the Maddedu Area Committee, while Mangal served with the Akash team and remained affiliated with the second CRC of CPI (Maoist).
Officials said sustained outreach and counseling played a key role. Over time, the cadres grew disillusioned with leadership and the hardships of underground life. As a result, they chose to return to their families.
Maoist surrender linked to CRPF outreach and state incentives
ASP Manan Butt handed ₹25,000 each to the surrendered cadres under the state’s surrender policy. The policy offers financial assistance, healthcare, and full rehabilitation support to former Maoists.
Meanwhile, police continued counseling families in affected areas. Through media campaigns and direct engagement, authorities encouraged more cadres to rejoin mainstream society.
The surrender programme was attended by CRPF Assistant Commandant Prashasta, Circle Inspector Ramesh of Venkatapuram, Sub-Inspector Satish of Wajedu, and Sub-Inspector Tirupati of Venkatapur.
