Hyderabad: Madhura Nagar police registered a case after a minor girl suicide attempt in the city, allegedly triggered by sexual assault and pressure to undergo a forced abortion, officials said on Sunday.
According to the police, a youth from the Madhura Nagar police station limits allegedly cheated the minor girl in the name of love and sexually assaulted her. When he later learned that the girl had become pregnant, he allegedly tried to force her to undergo an abortion.
Unable to cope with the trauma, the minor girl attempted suicide. Family members noticed the incident in time and rushed her to a hospital, where doctors saved her life, police said.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s family, Madhura Nagar police registered a zero FIR against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant rape provisions. Officials said they would proceed with further legal action as per procedure.

Police said the investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events and gather medical and forensic evidence. Officers said they would ensure strict action against the accused if the charges are proved.
The case has renewed concern over crimes against minor girls and alleged forced abortions in the state. The victim’s family demanded swift investigation and severe punishment for the accused.
