Minority Affairs Ministry launches new modules on UMEED portal

New Delhi: The Ministry of Minority Affairs launched two new UMEED portal modules on January 30 to strengthen transparent and accountable management of Waqf properties, officials said.

Specifically, the ministry introduced the Survey Module and the Waqf Property Lease Module on the UMEED Central Portal. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, launched the modules in the presence of senior officials. Through this step, the ministry expanded the portal’s digital governance framework.

The Survey Module provides a structured digital system to capture and update survey data of Waqf properties. As a result, officials can manage records efficiently while ensuring regular verification and monitoring through the portal.

Similarly, the Waqf Property Lease Module enables end-to-end management of leasing information. It records lease terms, lease duration, lease amounts and related details in a transparent format. Therefore, the module strengthens oversight and improves accountability in Waqf property leasing.

UMEED portal modules boost transparency in Waqf management

Moreover, the ministry said the launch reflected its continued focus on technology-driven governance. Accordingly, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar urged State and Union Territory Waqf Boards to implement the modules widely. He also asked them to create awareness among eligible beneficiaries to ensure effective usage.

Earlier, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the UMEED Central Portal on June 6, 2025. Since then, the portal has functioned as a central platform for real-time uploading, verification and monitoring of Waqf properties under the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995.

In addition, the portal aims to transform Waqf asset administration across India. Its key features include a digital inventory with geo-tagging of properties, an online grievance redressal system and transparent leasing records. It also integrates GIS mapping and other e-Governance tools. Meanwhile, the portal provides public access to verified records and reports.

Overall, the Ministry of Minority Affairs continues to work closely with States, Union Territories and State Waqf Boards. Through this coordination, the ministry seeks to ensure efficient, transparent and accountable management of Waqf properties across the country.
