Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police imposed New Year traffic curbs on December 31, 2025, enforcing road closures, vehicle restrictions and intensive crowd control measures across the city to ensure public safety.
Police said they would completely close Tank Bund, NTR Marg and PVNR Marg along Necklace Road from 11 pm to 2 am to all vehicular traffic. Officials added that additional restrictions would be imposed depending on real-time traffic and crowd conditions.
To manage large gatherings, police deployed personnel at 217 major junctions across the city. High-density zones included malls, pubs, restaurants and celebration areas in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad and Saifabad.
Authorities said they would divert traffic around Hussain Sagar through alternate routes via Khairatabad, Liberty, Ranigunj, Karbala Maidan and Kawadiguda. Police clarified that most flyovers would remain closed during the night, except those in Begumpet and Tolichowki.
The Traffic Police said the PVNR Expressway would remain open only for air passengers carrying valid tickets. Meanwhile, the city banned the entry of lorries, private travel buses and other heavy vehicles from 10 pm to 2 am. Police advised such vehicles to use the Outer Ring Road instead.
Officials also arranged special parking facilities for visitors to Tank Bund. Designated parking locations included the Secretariat area, Prasad’s Multiplex, NTR Stadium and Race Course Road.
New Year traffic curbs include strict enforcement measures
As part of New Year traffic curbs, police intensified enforcement against drunk driving, overspeeding and rash driving. They also booked cases for triple riding, riding without helmets and wrong-side driving.
Police said drunk driving would attract a fine of ₹10,000 or imprisonment of up to six months. Repeat offenders would face suspension or cancellation of their driving licences. Officials also warned that vehicle owners who allow minors to drive would face prosecution.
Meanwhile, police directed event organisers, hotels, bars and clubs to ensure safe transport for inebriated customers. They also instructed establishments to manage parking properly and strictly follow permitted liquor service timings.
