New Delhi: Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia led a two-minute silence for Nepal flood victims at the Northeast Students’ Fest in New Delhi on Thursday.
Scindia asked the audience to stand and observe the silence in memory of those who lost their lives. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
The Minister attended the 9th edition of the Northeast Students’ Fest at Talkatora Stadium. He interacted with students and young people from across the Northeastern states during the event.
Scindia described the Northeast Students’ Fest as a celebration of the region’s culture, creativity and youth. He also highlighted the contribution of young people to the region’s development.
He spoke about My Home India and its role in promoting national integration, social harmony and youth empowerment. The organisation has worked in this area for the past 21 years.
According to Scindia, the initiative began as a “Home Away from Home” for students from the Northeast. Over time, it developed into a national platform for young Indians.
He said the platform allows young people to celebrate their distinct identities while recognising their shared national bonds. The festival also brings together youth from different parts of the country.
Northeast Students’ Fest spotlights youth and national unity
Scindia used India’s rivers to explain the idea of unity in diversity. He referred to the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Brahmaputra.
He said the rivers emerge from different terrains and flow through different landscapes. Yet, they eventually come together as a powerful force while retaining their individual identities.
Similarly, he highlighted the Northeast’s diverse cultures and traditions. At the same time, he stressed the shared connections that link young people across India.
Scindia called the youth the real growth engine of the Northeast. He also described them as builders of Viksit Bharat 2047.
He highlighted achievements by young talent from the region in sports, music, education, technology and innovation. These fields, he said, showed the wide range of talent emerging from the Northeast.
As examples, Scindia cited the achievements of Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain. Their success, he said, reflected the potential of young people from the region.
The Minister also felicitated students and participants who took part in the festival’s dance competition. He congratulated the winners for their performances.
The event thus combined cultural celebration with a message of national integration and youth participation. It also highlighted the role of Northeast youth in India’s development journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
