PM to take part in Veer Baal Diwas programme on December 26

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the national Veer Baal Diwas programme on December 26 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and will address the gathering during the event.

The programme is scheduled to begin at around 12:15 pm and forms part of the Government of India’s nationwide observance to honour the courage and sacrifice of the Sahibzades. Senior officials, invited guests and children from across the country are expected to attend the event. The Prime Minister’s participation highlights the importance attached to remembering the sacrifices of young heroes in India’s history.

To mark the occasion, the Union government has organised participative activities across states and Union Territories. These programmes aim to inform citizens, especially children, about the extraordinary bravery and martyrdom of the Sahibzades. At the same time, the initiative seeks to inspire young people by recalling values of courage, sacrifice and service to the nation.

The activities include storytelling sessions, recitations and cultural programmes. In addition, authorities have planned poster-making and essay-writing competitions for students. Schools, Child Care Institutions and Anganwadi centres are actively hosting these events. Online activities are also underway through the MyGov and MyBharat portals to ensure wider participation.

The government announced Veer Baal Diwas on January 9, 2022, during the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The Prime Minister declared that December 26 would be observed annually to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. Their sacrifice, officials said, continues to inspire generations across the country.

Veer Baal Diwas programme to highlight Sahibzades’ sacrifice

Through the Veer Baal Diwas programme, the government aims to create awareness about lesser-known chapters of India’s history. Moreover, the observance focuses on honouring the indomitable courage shown by the young sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Officials believe such initiatives help strengthen national values among children and youth.

Awardees of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar will also attend the programme in New Delhi. Their presence is expected to underline the theme of recognising bravery and exceptional achievements among children. Furthermore, interactions between awardees and participants are planned as part of the event.

Officials said the nationwide activities would continue beyond December 26 in many regions. As a result, educational institutions and community centres will remain key platforms for outreach. The government hopes that the observance will encourage reflection on sacrifice, resilience and moral courage.

The Veer Baal Diwas programme, therefore, stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by young martyrs. At the same time, it reinforces the message that courage and values remain central to the nation’s identity.
