New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Friday for a two-day official visit to Malaysia and was received by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a special gesture.
The visit, scheduled for February 7 and 8, is Prime Minister Modi’s third trip to Malaysia since 2015. He is visiting at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
On arrival, Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome from his Malaysian counterpart. Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Deputy Foreign Minister Dato’ Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni were also present at the airport reception.
The arrival ceremony included a cultural welcome that highlighted the shared heritage and longstanding people-to-people ties between India and Malaysia. Officials said the gesture reflected the importance Malaysia attaches to the bilateral relationship.
The visit aims to further strengthen the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which both countries established in 2024. The government said the engagement underlined India’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Malaysia across key sectors.

Officials said the Prime Minister Malaysia visit aligned with India’s Act East Policy and its broader Indo-Pacific vision. The visit also supported Vision MAHASAGAR, which focuses on maritime cooperation and regional stability.
During the visit, both sides are expected to review progress in bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration. These include trade, investment, defence, maritime security and cultural exchanges.
The government said Malaysia remains a key partner for India in Southeast Asia. It added that regular high-level exchanges have helped sustain momentum in the bilateral relationship.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit comes amid growing engagement between India and ASEAN countries. Officials said the meetings in Kuala Lumpur would help advance shared regional and global priorities.
