Complaint reaches Raj Bhavan over Osmania professor suspension

Hyderabad: A formal complaint against the Osmania professor suspension reached Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, with former MLC Dr Shravan Kumar Dasoju urging the Governor to intervene and revoke the order.

In his representation, Dr Shravan alleged that university authorities had illegally suspended Professor B. Manohar. He said officials acted without following due process or conducting any inquiry.

According to Dr Shravan, Osmania University was witnessing undemocratic administration. Moreover, he alleged that officials were suppressing dissenting voices instead of encouraging academic debate.

He argued that universities served as centres of intellectual inquiry, not factories that produced obedience. Therefore, he said, silencing questioning voices weakened democratic values.

Allegations of intimidation and curbs on free expression raised

Calling the suspension authoritarian, Dr Shravan said officials imposed punishment without giving the professor a chance to explain. He added that such actions reflected intolerance towards criticism.

Further, he accused the administration of creating an atmosphere of fear among faculty members. As a result, academic freedom and freedom of expression faced serious threats on campus.

Dr Shravan also criticised university officials for assuming the role of police. He said this conduct damaged institutional autonomy and eroded Osmania University’s historic legacy.

Demanding immediate relief, he urged Raj Bhavan to cancel the Osmania professor suspension without delay. He warned that if questioning voices died in universities, democracy itself would lose its soul.

Sources said Raj Bhavan had taken note of the complaint and would examine the matter.
