Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy backed Rahul Gandhi for Prime Minister at an award event in Kerala on Friday. Reddy made the remarks after receiving the Aryadan Muhammed Award in Nilambur.
Reddy said his remaining political goal was to help Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister. He also urged Congress workers to unite behind Gandhi and take the party’s message across the country.
The Aryadan Muhammed Foundation presented Reddy with its Best Public Servant Award 2026. The honour was instituted in memory of veteran Kerala Congress leader and former minister Aryadan Muhammed.
Reddy said it was an honour to receive the award as the first person from outside Kerala to be selected for it. He also praised Aryadan Muhammed’s political career and his contribution to public life.
Aryadan Muhammed was elected as an MLA eight times. In addition, he served as a minister in four Kerala governments. The foundation has associated his legacy with democratic values, secularism and public welfare.
Reddy said the late leader’s legacy was relevant to the current political situation. He referred to democracy, secularism, freedom and the Constitution. He also alleged that communal forces were threatening these values and called on Congress supporters to oppose them.
Meanwhile, Reddy described Kerala as an important indicator of national political trends. He referred to changes in Kerala governments and linked them to shifts in political power at the Centre.
Rahul Gandhi PM call comes with Congress unity appeal
Reddy also referred to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra winning Lok Sabha seats in Kerala. He said the state had remained important to Congress politics and had a close connection with the Gandhi family.
He cited the Congress-led governments of P.V. Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh while discussing national politics. He then contrasted those periods with the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Looking ahead, Reddy said Congress had an opportunity to build on its support in Kerala. He described the party’s support in the state as a political wind and urged workers to carry that momentum to other parts of India.
Reddy also recalled his own political journey through grassroots and state and national positions. He mentioned serving as a ZPTC member, MLC, MLA, MP, PCC president and Chief Minister.
However, he said he no longer had personal political ambitions. Instead, he said his remaining goal was to see Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister.
Reddy also alleged irregularities involving votes, political parties, election symbols and funds. He linked those allegations to broader concerns about India’s democratic system.
Finally, he called on Congress workers to unite behind Rahul Gandhi. He said the party should continue its campaign around protecting India from what he described as communal forces.
