Section 144 imposed in Kamareddy after Congress BJP clash

Hyderabad: Police imposed Section 144 in Kamareddy on Saturday after clashes broke out between Congress and BJP workers over allegations linked to Government Degree College and Arora lands. Authorities detained several leaders and activists from both parties to prevent further escalation.

Police also placed BJP MLA K Venkataramana Reddy under house arrest as tensions rose in the town. The situation intensified after he challenged senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir to a public discussion at Saraswati Shishu Mandir at 10 am. Congress leaders accepted the challenge and announced their readiness for an open debate.

However, Congress workers attempted to lay siege to the MLA’s camp office. Police intervened and detained them. In response, BJP cadres gathered and staged protests. During the unrest, unidentified persons smashed the windows of a car and set it on fire. As a result, tension spread rapidly across Kamareddy.

Following the violence, police dispersed both groups and increased deployment at sensitive locations. Heavy pickets were stationed around the MLA’s camp office and other key areas. Authorities said Section 144 in Kamareddy would remain in force to maintain public order.

Appealing for calm, Venkataramana Reddy urged BJP workers not to assemble near Shishu Mandir. He said the allegations were personal and that he would address them through legal means. “These are allegations against my family. I will prove the truth. No party worker should interfere. I have given my word to the police,” he said.

Meanwhile, officials continued to monitor the situation closely to prevent further confrontation.
