Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team carried out KTR questioning on Friday in connection with the Telangana phone tapping case registered as Crime No. 243/2024 at Panjagutta Police Station.
The SIT summoned former minister and Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao to the Jubilee Hills Police Station at 11 am after issuing a formal notice. During the KTR questioning session, investigators examined his role in key developments linked to alleged large-scale illegal phone tapping.
Officials said the probe relates to surveillance allegedly conducted on political leaders, journalists, judges, businessmen and other public figures. Investigators reviewed KTR’s responses alongside evidence already gathered in the case.
The SIT cautioned him against influencing witnesses. Officers also informed him that the agency may call him again, depending on the progress of the investigation.
Police commissioner clarifies scope of KTR questioning
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the KTR questioning focused strictly on the phone tapping investigation. He rejected claims suggesting that the surveillance was lawful or carried out for security purposes.
Sajjanar described such narratives as misleading. He clarified that the SIT has no role in promoting or validating those claims.
He added that the SIT is conducting the probe transparently and in full compliance with the law. Police urged the public to rely only on official updates and avoid circulating unverified information related to the case.
