Health Secretary reviews Swachhata Pakhwada at AIIMS Mangalagiri

Mangalagiri: Punya Salila Srivastava reviewed Swachhata Pakhwada AIIMS Mangalagiri activities during her visit to AIIMS Mangalagiri on Thursday.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is observing Swachhata Pakhwada from April 1 to 15 across its institutions. Therefore, the visit focused on assessing cleanliness, sanitation and awareness initiatives at the institute.

The Secretary inspected hospital premises, patient care areas and waste management systems. She appreciated efforts in cleanliness drives, waste segregation and infection control.

In addition, she reviewed awareness campaigns conducted for staff, students and patients. These initiatives aim to promote behavioural change and improve hygiene standards.

During an interaction session, she said cleanliness plays a vital role in reducing disease burden. Moreover, she stressed that preventive healthcare depends on strong sanitation practices.

Waste management and awareness initiatives appreciated

The Secretary also visited an exhibition of IEC materials prepared for the campaign. She praised efforts to spread awareness through creative communication tools.

Furthermore, she reviewed the ‘Waste to Art’ gallery. Students displayed innovative models, paintings and slogan cards using recycled materials. She appreciated their creativity and commitment to sustainability.

Officials also honoured sanitation workers and staff for maintaining a clean hospital environment. Their contribution, she noted, remains essential for patient safety.

Facilities review and hostel inauguration

As part of the visit, the Secretary inspected key facilities, including OPD services, radiology units and the Radiation Oncology department. These units feature advanced equipment such as Linear Accelerator and brachytherapy systems.

She also reviewed inpatient wards and emergency services to assess overall patient care.

During the visit, she dedicated a new G+9 undergraduate girls’ hostel. The facility will improve accommodation capacity and provide a safe environment for students.

Focus on quality healthcare and sustainability

The visit included interactions with faculty, students and staff on institutional development and service delivery. The Secretary appreciated their efforts and encouraged continued focus on quality healthcare.

The programme began with a plantation drive on campus. This step reflected the Ministry’s commitment to environmental sustainability along with cleanliness.
