Hyderabad: The Telangana government decided to submit a proposal to construct 642 km of rural roads under PMGSY Phase IV to improve connectivity in remote habitations.
The State Level Standing Committee took the decision at a meeting held at the Secretariat. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao chaired the session. Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, and senior officials attended the meeting.
Officials informed the committee that authorities completed all road and bridge works sanctioned under the first three phases of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Therefore, the new proposal focused on habitations that still lacked proper road access.
The State proposed road connectivity for 227 habitations as part of PMGSY Phase IV. The plan covered 642.23 km of new rural roads across Telangana. However, around 148 km passed through forest areas under 34 projects. Hence, these stretches will require clearance from the Forest Department.
Proposal to move to Centre after bridge DPR finalisation
Principal Secretary N. Sridhar said officials would finalise the Detailed Project Reports for bridges within a week. After that, the State government will forward the proposal to the Centre for funding consideration.
Officials said the project would strengthen rural connectivity. Moreover, it would improve access to markets, healthcare, and education. As a result, the initiative is expected to support balanced development in underserved areas.
