Telangana cold wave to intensify as IMD warns of sharp drop in temperatures

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department warned that the Telangana cold wave would intensify over the next two days, with minimum temperatures likely to fall 3°C to 4°C below normal in several districts, including parts of Hyderabad.

In a cold wave alert issued on Thursday, IMD-Hyderabad said isolated pockets across the State could experience a sharp dip in night temperatures. As a result, several districts may record minimums between 5°C and 10°C during the next two to three days.

The weather agency issued alerts for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mancherial, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Vikarabad and Kamareddy districts. In contrast, other parts of Telangana are expected to record slightly higher minimums, ranging between 10°C and 15°C.

Meanwhile, the chill was already evident early on Thursday. According to Telangana State Development Planning Society data, outskirts of Hyderabad reported sharp drops in temperature during the early morning hours.

Telangana cold wave grips districts as temperatures dip sharply

Data showed that Moinabad and Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy district recorded minimum temperatures of 6.5°C and 7.5°C, respectively. Similarly, areas such as HCU and Serilingampalli recorded 8.1°C, while Moula Ali saw 9.4°C. Rajendranagar recorded 9.5°C, and Gachibowli, Gajularamaram, Jeedimetla and Alwal recorded temperatures between 11°C and 12°C.

Across districts, Komaram Bheem Asifabad recorded a low of 5.7°C. Sangareddy and Rangareddy followed with 6.4°C and 6.5°C. Adilabad recorded 7.7°C, while Vikarabad and Siddipet reported 8.1°C each. Medak recorded a minimum temperature of 8.5°C.
