Hyderabad: Telangana healthcare budget allocated Rs 13,679 crore to expand public health infrastructure and improve access to services, Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said on Friday.
He said the plan focuses on preventive care, maternal health and chronic disease management. As a result, the government aims to strengthen both primary and tertiary healthcare systems.
A key component is the expansion of hospital infrastructure. Officials said the number of beds in government hospitals will rise significantly by the end of 2026.
New medical colleges and expansion of existing institutions will add thousands of beds. Therefore, access to specialised and tertiary care is expected to improve across the State.
The government also announced new specialised facilities. These include cancer centres, non-communicable disease clinics and palliative care units.
In addition, dedicated services for senior citizens and transgender persons are part of the plan. A digital public health profile system will also be introduced for all residents.
Telangana healthcare budget boosts insurance and medical education
The system will create digital health records to track conditions and enable timely care. Officials said it follows global practices and will improve preventive healthcare delivery.
The budget also expands medical education through new colleges and training institutions. This move aims to increase the number of healthcare professionals.
Meanwhile, the government introduced a cashless health scheme for employees and pensioners. Nearly 23.5 lakh beneficiaries are expected to receive coverage.
The scheme will offer treatment in government and empanelled private hospitals. Moreover, an accident insurance scheme will provide financial support in case of death or disability.
Rural healthcare also received focus, with plans to strengthen district hospitals. As a result, services will expand in underserved regions.
Child health and nutrition programmes were also enhanced. The government plans early detection and treatment of developmental issues to prevent long-term risks.
The Finance Minister said the Telangana healthcare budget combines infrastructure, services and prevention. He added that the goal is to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
