Telangana heavy rain alert issued for 24 districts as downpours expected Sunday

Hyderabad: Telangana authorities issued a Telangana heavy rain alert covering 24 districts on Saturday as meteorologists forecast intense downpours beginning Sunday evening and continuing overnight into Monday.

Fifteen districts received red alerts indicating the most severe weather conditions expected across central and eastern regions. Meanwhile, nine additional districts face orange alerts for moderate to heavy precipitation during the same period.

Red alert zones encompass Bhadradri, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Sircilla, Siddipet, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Sangareddy districts. Consequently, district collectors instructed residents in low-lying areas to exercise extreme caution as flooding risks increase significantly.

Orange alert districts include Adilabad, Asifabad, Janagaon, Vikarabad, Yadadri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Ranga Reddy, and Mahabubnagar, where forecasters predicted substantial rainfall accumulations. Subsequently, local administrators activated emergency response teams and established round-the-clock control rooms to monitor developing conditions.

Telangana heavy rain alert extends to Hyderabad with traffic disruptions expected

Hyderabad faces rainfall totals between 30 and 60 millimetres as light to moderate showers commence during daylight hours before intensifying after sunset. Furthermore, traffic authorities warned commuters about potential waterlogging across major thoroughfares and advised alternative route planning.

This weather system represents the first significant monsoon activity after weeks of sporadic precipitation patterns throughout Telangana. Previously, farmers and agricultural planners expressed concerns regarding insufficient seasonal rainfall affecting crop cultivation schedules.

State officials welcomed the anticipated rainfall surge while simultaneously emphasising safety precautions for flood-prone communities. Additionally, the Telangana Weatherman meteorological service continues monitoring atmospheric conditions and will provide updated forecasts based on real-time observations.

Authorities advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel during peak rainfall hours and monitor official government communication channels for emergency updates and safety instructions throughout the weather event.
