Hyderabad: Telangana municipal results indicate growing public support for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party working president K. T. Rama Rao said on Friday. He claimed the outcome reflected dissatisfaction with the ruling Congress government.
Speaking to the media, Rama Rao alleged misuse of administrative machinery and money power during the polls. Despite this, he said, the BRS secured key victories in several municipalities. He described the mandate as a shift in voter sentiment across urban local bodies.
Telangana municipal results strengthen BRS position
Telangana municipal results show that the party won around 15 municipalities, according to Rama Rao. He added that the BRS emerged as an influential force in several others. In some municipalities, he claimed, the party became the single largest formation with decisive influence.
Referring to recent Panchayat elections, he said nearly 40 per cent of Gram Panchayats were won by BRS-backed candidates. More than 4,000 Sarpanch posts were secured by party-supported nominees, he added. Therefore, he maintained that the latest civic verdict further consolidated the party’s base.
Comparing the outcome with the 2020 municipal polls, he noted that the then Telangana Rashtra Samithi had won 122 mayor and chairperson posts out of 130. In contrast, he said, the current scenario reflected a more competitive political landscape.
Overall, he termed the results across 117 municipalities politically significant. He asserted that the verdict strengthened the BRS as the principal opposition force in the State.
Rama Rao also accused Congress leaders of attempting to lure elected members after the elections. He said the party would counter such efforts through political and legal means. Additionally, he thanked party cadres and supporters for their campaign efforts.
He concluded that the Telangana municipal results demonstrated rising backing for the BRS and positioned it to challenge Congress in the State.
