Hyderabad: The Temple spending row has intensified in Telangana after a senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi questioned the state government’s decision to allocate ₹700 crore for temple construction.
Dasoju Sravan raised concerns over the move, arguing that key public sectors such as education and healthcare remain underfunded.
Questions over spending priorities
Addressing the issue, Sravan alleged that devotion was being used to mask “greed-driven politics.” He criticised the government for prioritising religious infrastructure while government schools continue to face financial shortages.
He pointed out that children from economically weaker backgrounds depend on these institutions. Therefore, he demanded clarity on priorities in the ongoing Temple spending row.
Concerns over funding imbalance
The Temple spending row has brought attention to what Sravan described as a “disturbing imbalance” in public expenditure.
He claimed that critical sectors like education and healthcare were being neglected. Moreover, he alleged that the temple construction initiative could be linked to real estate interests.
According to him, large sums of public money were being diverted, raising concerns among citizens.
Political tensions escalate
As the Temple spending row continues, Sravan accused the government of engaging in “spiritual politics” to divert attention from governance issues.
He urged the administration to ensure transparency in public spending. In addition, he called for increased investment in essential services, particularly those benefiting underprivileged communities.
The issue has further escalated political tensions between the BRS and the ruling Indian National Congress in Telangana, with demands growing for accountability in government expenditure.
