Bus fire on Khammam–Visakhapatnam route leaves vehicle destroyed, passengers safe

Visakhapatnam: A private travel bus caught fire on the Khammam–Visakhapatnam route in the early hours of Wednesday, destroying the vehicle completely, while all passengers escaped safely due to the driver’s alert action.

The incident occurred when the bus was travelling from Khammam towards Visakhapatnam. As it reached the Kovvur flyover, a self-motor short circuit triggered the fire. Flames spread rapidly and engulfed the bus within minutes.

Sensing danger, the driver immediately stopped the vehicle on the roadside. He alerted everyone on board and ensured a quick evacuation. Six passengers and four staff members got down safely before the fire intensified.

After evacuating the bus, the driver informed the fire department. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control. By then, the bus had already suffered extensive damage. Officials estimated the loss at around ₹80 lakh.

Travel bus fire leaves passengers stranded briefly

Authorities arranged an alternative bus for the stranded passengers. They were later shifted to their respective destinations without further delay.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Officials said timely action by the driver prevented a major tragedy and ensured passenger safety.
