CAQM inspection finds majority of Noida roads with low or no dust

Noida: The Commission for Air Quality Management conducted an inspection of 142 road stretches maintained by the Noida Authority and found that a majority had low or no visible dust.

The inspection drive took place on January 5 as part of CAQM’s monitoring and enforcement actions under the Graded Response Action Plan. The Commission assessed road cleaning, mechanical sweeping and overall upkeep to check compliance with dust mitigation measures.

CAQM said the exercise aimed to verify on-ground implementation and identify issues linked to road dust, municipal solid waste, construction debris and open burning. It added that regular inspections remained critical for sustained air quality improvement.

Ten inspection teams were deployed for the drive. These teams included officers from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the CAQM flying squad. They collected geo-tagged and time-stamped photographs, which were submitted in a consolidated report.

The findings showed an overall positive situation across the inspected stretches. Out of 142 roads, only four recorded high visible dust. Another 24 showed moderate dust levels, while 66 had low dust intensity. As many as 48 stretches showed no visible dust.

CAQM inspection identifies hotspots needing corrective action

CAQM said the few stretches with high dust often coincided with waste accumulation. These locations included areas under flyovers, metro corridors and some arterial roads. The Commission said such hotspots required focused attention to prevent re-accumulation.

It directed targeted corrective measures at identified locations. These include intensified mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling and timely lifting of dust and waste. CAQM also stressed the need for scientific disposal of collected material.

The Commission called for strict prevention of waste dumping and open burning. It said sustained efforts at vulnerable locations would help maintain gains achieved through regular cleaning operations.

CAQM said inspection and enforcement drives under Operation Clean Air would continue across the NCR. It reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with all agencies to ensure clean, dust-free and well-maintained roads in the region.
