Uttam Kumar Reddy asks engineers to ensure irrigation reaches tail-end ayacuts

Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday directed state engineers to ensure that irrigation water reached farmers in tail-end ayacuts by aligning fieldwork strictly with the government’s priorities.

The Minister stressed that improving irrigation access at the tail end of ayacuts was critical for equitable water distribution. He said engineers must focus on field-level execution to ensure that benefits reached farmers without delays or misuse of power. According to him, efficient water management on the ground would directly support agricultural productivity.

Uttam Kumar Reddy made the remarks after releasing the Hyderabad Engineers Association’s annual diary at Kundanbagh. During the event, the association expressed gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Irrigation Minister for implementing transparent and impartial promotions.

The association noted that, for the first time, 343 engineers were promoted from Deputy Executive Engineer to Engineer-in-Chief strictly on the basis of seniority. It said the move restored confidence among engineers and strengthened institutional fairness within the department.

The Minister emphasised that engineers had a vital role in Telangana’s development. He urged them to work diligently at the field level and ensure smooth irrigation delivery. He added that accountability and commitment were essential to meet the expectations of farmers across the state.

Irrigation tail-end ayacuts a key focus of field-level execution

Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that irrigation projects would achieve their purpose only when water reached the last mile. He said engineers must identify bottlenecks in canals and distribution systems and resolve them promptly. He also underlined that timely execution and coordination were crucial during the irrigation season.

The Minister said the government expected engineers to uphold professional integrity and avoid unnecessary delays. He added that disciplined fieldwork would help address long-standing grievances of farmers in tail-end areas.

Hyderabad Engineers Association President Rapolu Ravinder, General Secretary Chakradhar, Engineer-in-Chief (Administration) Ramesh Babu, and Joint Secretary K. Srinivas attended the programme. Senior engineers and association members were also present during the diary release event.
