Indore: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal inaugurated Indore Metro Priority Corridor–2 on Saturday. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the event.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu was also present at the inauguration. The opening marked a new phase in Indore’s urban transport development.
The newly opened Phase-I Reach-II section stretches about 11 km. It includes 11 stations from Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha.
The government developed the corridor at an estimated cost of ₹2,850 crore. With this addition, the Indore Metro network now has 16 operational stations.
The expanded network covers approximately 17 km in total. Its cumulative project cost has reached about ₹4,370 crore.
Manohar Lal said the Metro would offer citizens faster and safer travel. He also said it would provide a more comfortable and reliable transport option.
The Union Minister said the new corridor would improve links between residential, commercial and employment centres. Therefore, the project was expected to strengthen daily urban connectivity.
Indore Metro expansion targets wider urban benefits
Manohar Lal said Metro Rail was more than a transport project. He described it as an important tool for economic growth, urban transformation and social inclusion.
He also stressed the benefits of greater public transport use. According to him, higher Metro usage could reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption and emissions.
The Union Minister congratulated the Madhya Pradesh government and the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited. He also acknowledged officials, engineers, workers and other stakeholders involved in the project.
The inauguration added another operational section to the city’s Metro network. It also marked the expansion of rail-based public transport across a wider part of Indore.
The new 11-km section connected Super Corridor-3 with Malviya Nagar Chauraha through 11 stations. As a result, the network reached 16 operational stations covering about 17 km.
