Hyderabad: Azharuddin questions KCR over his prolonged absence from the Telangana Legislative Assembly and his role as Leader of Opposition.
Telangana Minorities Welfare and Public Enterprises Minister Mohammed Azharuddin raised the issue at a protest programme at Dharna Chowk on Sunday.
He said K. Chandrashekar Rao had a constitutional responsibility to attend the House and represent the people who elected him.
“Why has KCR been absent from the Assembly for nearly 1,000 days?” Azharuddin asked.
He further said KCR should step down as Leader of Opposition if he could not attend the House and discharge his duties.
According to Azharuddin, the Leader of Opposition holds an important position in a parliamentary democracy. The role includes questioning the government, joining debates and raising public concerns.
He recalled that KCR regularly attended the Assembly while serving as Chief Minister. At that time, he said, KCR ensured that government business continued in the House.
However, Azharuddin said the Opposition must remain present when people need their representatives to speak for them.
The minister also defended the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He said the government was working on development, welfare and inclusive governance.
He cited the Telangana Rising vision, women’s empowerment and family welfare among the government’s priorities. Education and minority welfare were also part of the agenda, he said.
“The Chief Minister is working with a clear vision for the future of Telangana,” Azharuddin said. He added that the government wanted development to reach every section of society.
The minister said the government had focused on minority welfare in education, social welfare and economic empowerment. He also said officials were addressing issues that had remained pending for years.
According to Azharuddin, the government was taking steps to improve welfare delivery. He said education and economic opportunities could help minority communities progress.
“Minority welfare is an important priority for our government,” he said. The minister added that the government wanted communities to advance through education and welfare programmes.
Azharuddin questions KCR while citing welfare measures
Azharuddin also highlighted the issuance of ration cards and other welfare initiatives. He said several pending issues were now being addressed by the Congress government.
In addition, he said the government was giving equal importance to education and social welfare. The aim, he said, was to ensure that welfare schemes reached deserving families.
The minister also referred to the Medina bus accident. He praised Revanth Reddy for responding quickly after the tragedy.
Azharuddin said the Chief Minister had acted swiftly and sanctioned ex-gratia assistance for the victims’ families. He described the response as an indication of the government’s sensitivity during difficult situations.
“The immediate response of the Chief Minister reflects the sensitivity of the Congress government towards people facing difficult situations,” Azharuddin said.
He added that the government had stood with affected families during the tragedy.
Azharuddin said the Congress government would continue its work for all sections of Telangana. He said its focus would remain on development, social justice and economic opportunities.
He also stressed the need for inclusive development across the state. According to him, minorities, women, students, workers, farmers and weaker sections should participate equally in Telangana’s progress.
“Telangana has a future full of opportunities,” Azharuddin said. He added that the government’s responsibility was to ensure development reached every section.
The minister said no community should be left behind. He linked this goal to the government’s wider focus on welfare and development.
At the protest programme, Azharuddin therefore combined criticism of KCR’s Assembly attendance with a defence of the Congress government’s record.
His remarks focused on the role of the Opposition and the need for elected representatives to participate in legislative proceedings. He also highlighted welfare delivery and minority development as key areas of the government’s work.
