IMD expects cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal by October 26

Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal to become a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26. The cyclonic storm is likely to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal. The system will then likely move west-northwestwards towards the North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts. Heavy rainfall warnings at this stage focus mainly on coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

The IMD confirmed that the low-pressure area formed over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on October 23. Moreover, it expects the system to intensify into a depression on October 24 and a deep depression on October 25.

Cyclonic storm and Telangana: dry weather until October 26

For Telangana, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecast largely dry weather through October 26. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places from October 27 onwards. The eastern districts should feel a greater impact if the system follows the projected track.

Some private forecasts have suggested heavier rain in Bhadradri-Kothagudem and neighbouring areas around October 29–31. However, official guidance remains more cautious. It depends on the system’s final intensity and path.
