Vaishnaw and Mohan Yadav to inaugurate two Vindhya rail sections on 24 October

New Delhi: Union Railways Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the Satna–Devendra Nagar (53 km) and Rewa–Churhat (65 km) rail sections on 24 October 2026. Together, the Vindhya rail sections cover 118 kilometres of railway line. The new Devendra Nagar–Churhat train service will also be flagged off on the occasion.

The new line will connect Sidhi district to the rail network for the first time since Independence. The connection, described as a historic achievement for the Vindhya region, will boost passenger movement and freight transportation. It will also create new opportunities for industrial activities, trade and employment.

A record budget allocation of ₹15,188 crore has been made for railway development in Madhya Pradesh in 2026–27. Meanwhile, railway projects worth approximately ₹1,18,379 crore are currently in progress in the state.

The Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project is of particular importance to the region. It will expand the rail network and strengthen connectivity to areas such as Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli. Upon completion, it will help connect mineral-rich regions with major industrial and transportation hubs across the country.

Shri Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, will attend the programme at Churhat Railway Station. Rewa MP Shri Janardan Mishra, Sidhi MP Shri Rajesh Mishra and other public representatives and dignitaries will also be present.

At Nagod Railway Station, Smt. Pratima Bagri, Minister of State in the Madhya Pradesh Government, will attend the programme. Satna MP Shri Ganesh Singh, Khajuraho MP Shri Vishnu Datt Sharma, Nagod MLA Shri Nagendra Singh and other dignitaries will join her.

Vindhya rail sections: Satna–Devendra Nagar and Rewa–Churhat

Developed under the Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project, the Satna–Devendra Nagar section will strengthen connectivity to Satna, Nagod, Devendra Nagar and surrounding areas. Improved connectivity will make transportation easier and promote limestone-based industries and cement plants. It will also support local trade, industrial activities, education and employment opportunities.

The 65-kilometre Rewa–Churhat section will further strengthen rail connectivity between the Rewa and Sidhi regions. Several important engineering works, including railway bridges and tunnels, have been undertaken across the hilly terrain along this route. These include a 3.33-kilometre-long tunnel.

With this section, Sidhi district has been connected to the rail network for the first time. Given the availability of limestone and other minerals in the region, the route is also expected to help transport cement, clinker and other freight in the future.

The Devendra Nagar–Churhat train service will provide an additional travel option for local passengers, students, employees and traders. It will improve connectivity between surrounding areas and support education, trade and employment.

The two Vindhya rail sections are also expected to give fresh impetus to tourism across the region. The area is home to several prominent tourist attractions, including the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur. Improved connectivity will make it more convenient for tourists to reach the region’s religious, historical and natural attractions. This will boost tourism, local trade, hotels and transport services while creating new jobs.

The sections will also facilitate the expansion of industrial activities and the establishment of new industries and cement plants. Better connectivity will ease freight transportation, encourage trade and help expand employment opportunities for local youth. Thus, the expansion of the rail network will provide fresh impetus to regional economic development and public welfare.
