Hyderabad: BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav asked party workers to focus on voter registration ahead of the Khairatabad bypoll and upcoming elections. He made the statement at a BRS general body meeting at the Zoroastrian Club in Secunderabad on Wednesday.
Talasani asked workers in Sanath Nagar to spend the next 30 days visiting households and helping eligible voters complete registration. He said the constituency has more than 10,000 graduate voters and urged workers to ensure that every eligible graduate registers as a voter.
The BRS leader also directed the party organisation to focus on the two Graduate MLC elections along with the Khairatabad bypoll. He asked party workers to strengthen their efforts across the constituency and support eligible voters with the registration process.
Talasani criticised the Congress government over what he described as unfulfilled election promises. He alleged that the party made several promises before coming to power and later failed to fulfil them for people from different sections.
He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over remarks made when people questioned the government about its promises and public issues. Talasani raised the issue of two MLC seats that Congress had given to candidates from the open category.
Khairatabad bypoll focus shifts to voter registration
Talasani questioned whether eligible candidates from BC, SC, ST and minority communities had been made unavailable for the MLC positions. He also alleged that the government suspended BRS legislators because it feared questions on public issues in the Assembly.
According to Talasani, BRS members will continue to question the government inside the Assembly. He also criticised the chief minister’s remarks during exchanges in the House.
The MLA referred to former minister T. Harish Rao’s role in Assembly proceedings. Talasani alleged that the government wanted to restrict him from raising issues in the House.
Party general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar, MLC Surabhi Vani Devi and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav also attended the meeting. Former corporators, divisional presidents, Telangana movement activists and senior leaders participated in the programme.
The Khairatabad Assembly seat has recently fallen vacant following the disqualification of former MLA Danam Nagender, setting the stage for a by-election.
