Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission registered a case in the Kodada custodial death of Karla Rajesh after senior human rights lawyer Rama Rao Immaneni filed a petition seeking action against police officials.
According to the petition, the police ignored repeated complaints filed by the deceased’s mother, Lalithamma. As a result, the situation allegedly worsened over time. Consequently, the petitioner claimed that the failure to act led to the custodial death.
Moreover, Rama Rao Immaneni urged the NHRC to direct Telangana State Home Department Principal Secretary C. V. Anand to initiate action. Specifically, he sought proceedings against Kodada Circle Inspector Pratap Lingam, Chillakuru Sub-Inspector Suresh Reddy, Constable Rama Rao, and Home Guard Narasimha Rao.
Kodada custodial death brought under NHRC scrutiny
Subsequently, the National Human Rights Commission took cognisance of the complaint and registered it as Petition No. 289/17/IN/2025. With this step, the Kodada custodial death came under the Commission’s formal scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the petition stated that the victim’s family approached the police several times before the incident. However, the police allegedly failed to respond. Therefore, the NHRC is expected to seek detailed reports from the concerned authorities.
Finally, the Commission will decide the next course of action after reviewing the submissions and official responses placed before it.
