Vice-President urges IDAS officer trainees to uphold integrity and prudent defence finance

New Delhi: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan urged Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) officer trainees to uphold integrity, vigilance, and sound financial management to protect the Armed Forces’ operational readiness.

While addressing trainees from the 2023 and 2024 batches at the Vice-President’s Enclave, he said public funds came from taxpayers and required full transparency and accountability. Strong financial discipline, he added, remained essential for defence preparedness and national security.

Welcoming the young officers, he recalled the Defence Accounts Department’s legacy of over 275 years. Civil servants, he said, would play a crucial role in India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Amrit Kaal vision, he highlighted inclusive growth and effective last-mile delivery. As guidance, he asked officers to embrace “Seva Bhav and Kartavya Bodh” in public service.

Explaining the significance of the Indian Defence Accounts Service, Radhakrishnan said the organisation acted as the financial and accounting authority of the Defence Services. He advised officers to stay mindful of the operational challenges faced by the Armed Forces. Such awareness, he noted, helped ensure informed decisions that strengthened military preparedness.

Amid rapid technological change, he underlined the importance of continuous capacity building. Platforms such as iGOT Karmayogi, he said, supported lifelong learning. On public service values, he observed that knowledge was vital, but character mattered more. The trainees, he reminded, had a rare opportunity to serve 140 crore citizens with humility and dedication.

Responding to a question on expectations from civil servants, he encouraged innovation, adoption of modern technologies, empathy in administration, and strict adherence to ethical standards.

Senior officials present included Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Controller General of Defence Accounts Vishvajit Sahay, Financial Adviser (Defence Services) Raj Kumar Arora, and others.
