Governor Jishnu Dev Varma urges artists to partner in district development

Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday called upon poets and artists to become active partners in the development of Jogulamba Gadwal district, stressing that cultural participation strengthens inclusive growth.

During a meeting with district officials and eminent personalities at the Integrated District Offices Complex, the Governor said collective effort was essential to achieve the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. Therefore, he urged all departments to work in close coordination and deliver results at the grassroots level.

Referring to the region’s heritage, he highlighted the historical and spiritual significance of the Alampur Sri Jogulamba and Bala Brahmeswara Swamy temples. Accordingly, he assured support for temple development while emphasising the need to balance conservation with modern infrastructure.

On education, the Governor said it remained the foundation of long-term progress. Hence, he called for qualitative improvement in learning standards and asked officials to position the district among the best in the state. He also appreciated the effective implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat programme.

Meanwhile, the Governor commended the district administration for organising large-scale blood donation camps through the Indian Red Cross Society. In addition, he suggested expanding these efforts to encourage wider public participation. He described the overall performance of the district administration as commendable and future-oriented.

Earlier, District Collector B.M. Santosh briefed the Governor through a PowerPoint presentation. He outlined the district’s geography, history, major temples, sector-wise progress, and the implementation status of welfare schemes.

As part of the visit, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma reiterated the importance of accessible governance. He recalled that Raj Bhavan had been renamed ‘Lok Bhavan’ to reflect openness, adding that district administrations should adopt a similar people-centric approach.

Upon arrival at the Collectorate from Alampur, officials and public representatives accorded the Governor a warm reception. Subsequently, he received a police guard of honour and watched a cultural dance performed by children from Gadwal Bal Bhavan.

Later, the Governor visited various stalls set up on the premises. He reviewed Red Cross activities and praised organisers for sustaining blood donation drives. Similarly, he inspected MEPMA and SERP stalls, where women self-help group members showcased their enterprises and effective use of loans.

At the health department stall, officials explained the progress of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Thereafter, he examined stalls related to Nasha Mukt Bharat and women and child welfare programmes.

The Governor also spent time at the handlooms and textiles stall. Here, he examined looms and spinning wheels, praised the craftsmanship of weavers, and sought details on the uniqueness of Gadwal sarees. Artisans presented handcrafted items to him as a gesture of respect.

Finally, the Governor planted a sapling in the Collectorate garden and posed for a group photograph with public representatives and officials. The programme was attended by Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Alampur MLA Vijayudu, SP Srinivasa Rao, senior officials attached to the Governor, additional collectors, RDOs, and district officers.
