New Delhi: Ministry of Coal successfully auctioned six coal mines under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial Coal block auctions. The auctions concluded after forward bidding held from August 3 to August 4, 2026.
The ministry launched the auction process on April 17, 2026. Four of the six mines are fully explored, while two are partially explored.
Together, the blocks hold geological reserves of about 1,503.93 million tonnes. They also have a combined Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum.
The six mines are expected to generate annual revenue of about ₹1,983.67 crore. They are also likely to attract investments of nearly ₹1,743 crore and create around 15,710 jobs.
Winning bidders and projected benefits
The Singareni Collieries Company Limited secured the Dip Side Extension of PKOC block in Telangana with a final bid of 6.50 per cent.
Gallantt Ispat Limited won the Dongeri Tal-II block in Madhya Pradesh with a final offer of 6.50 per cent. Qube Commercial Private Limited secured the Mandla South block in the same state with a bid of 4.50 per cent.
Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Limited won both the Margo West and Margo East blocks in Jharkhand. The company submitted final offers of 6.50 per cent and 10.25 per cent, respectively.
CG Syn-Gas and Chemicals Limited secured the Tara (Revised) block in Chhattisgarh with the highest final offer of 37.50 per cent.
Commercial Coal block auctions gather pace
The Ministry of Coal said it has successfully auctioned 147 coal blocks since commercial coal mining began in 2020. These mines have a combined production capacity of 377.974 million tonnes per year.
Once operational, the blocks will strengthen domestic coal production and support India’s goal of self-reliance in the coal sector.
The ministry estimated that the 147 auctioned blocks would generate annual revenue of about ₹48,215 crore. They are also expected to attract investments of ₹54,315 crore and create nearly 4,89,552 jobs across coal-bearing regions.
The ministry said the latest Coal block auctions reflect its commitment to meeting the country’s growing energy demand. It added that commercial mining will also promote investment, employment and long-term economic growth.
