GHMC chief reviews Comprehensive Development Corridor works in South Hyderabad

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Tuesday reviewed the progress of works on the Comprehensive Development Corridor linking Nalgonda ‘X’ Roads, Saidabad, IS Sadan and Owaisi Junction in South Hyderabad.

During the field inspection, Karnan assessed construction quality and timelines. Officials briefed him that engineers had completed nearly 80% of the work so far. The project aims to function as a conflict-free corridor to reduce traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest zones.

The Comprehensive Development Corridor includes a 2,530-metre-long main flyover. GHMC is executing the project at an estimated cost of ₹620 crore under the EPC and turnkey mode. Once completed, the corridor will offer uninterrupted connectivity across key junctions in South Hyderabad.

Karnan instructed engineers and contractors to accelerate the remaining works. He directed them to ensure the corridor becomes operational by April. He also stressed that delays would affect public convenience and traffic flow.

To maintain construction speed, the Commissioner instructed officials to secure traffic diversion permissions. He said approvals for the stretch between Saidabad and Dhobighat Junction were critical for uninterrupted work.

Comprehensive Development Corridor to improve traffic flow

The GHMC Commissioner also focused on post-completion traffic management. He directed officials to complete land acquisition for service roads without delay. According to him, service roads would play a key role in managing local traffic once the corridor opens.

He emphasised seamless connectivity across junctions and feeder roads. He said proper planning would prevent bottlenecks and improve safety for commuters. Moreover, he asked engineers to ensure proper signage, lane markings and lighting.

Officials informed Karnan that the corridor would significantly reduce travel time for commuters travelling between eastern and southern parts of Hyderabad. In addition, the project would ease congestion at Nalgonda ‘X’ Roads, Saidabad and IS Sadan junctions.

Charminar zonal commissioner Srinivas Reddy, executive engineer B. Gopal and other senior GHMC officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection. They assured him that teams would work in coordination to meet the April deadline.

The Comprehensive Development Corridor forms part of GHMC’s broader plan to strengthen urban infrastructure. Through such projects, the civic body aims to improve mobility, reduce congestion and enhance the overall commuting experience in Hyderabad.
