New Delhi: Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC), Hyderabad, signed an MoU on November 4 to strengthen India’s alternative dispute resolution ecosystem. The partnership will promote professional training, mediation support for MSMEs and policy-oriented research. Additionally, the institutions will work to improve arbitration and mediation practices and support Ease of Doing Business in India.
IAMC is an autonomous institution established with the support of the Telangana government and the Telangana High Court. The agreement also seeks to advance India’s alternative dispute resolution framework towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
IICA Director-General and CEO Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh welcomed IAMC CEO and Registrar AJ Jawad during the signing programme. Chief Administrative Officer Col. Amandeep Singh Puri signed the MoU on behalf of IICA, while Jawad represented IAMC. Meanwhile, Prof. Naveen Sirohi, Head of IICA’s Centre for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution (CEADR), welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the value of institutional partnerships.
Singh emphasised the need to create a specialised pool of arbitrators, mediators and dispute resolution professionals. Accordingly, the two institutions plan customised short-term and long-term courses, workshops, seminars and other skill development programmes. He also stressed mediation’s importance for the MSME sector, given its links with economic growth, GDP and exports.
IICA-IAMC partnership to expand mediation and professional training
Singh further highlighted the potential for sectoral focus and regional initiatives. He referred to Haryana’s vision of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2047. However, he said such ambitions require investor confidence, supported by strong institutional arbitration and mediation centres.
In his special address, Jawad said IAMC would work with IICA to combine institutional expertise and resources. The collaboration will develop structured programmes, joint initiatives and policy-oriented research. Moreover, it aims to promote professional excellence, best practices and innovation in arbitration, mediation and dispute resolution training.
CEADR organised the MoU signing programme under the guidance of Sirohi, who also heads IICA’s School of Finance and Management. The partnership will support institutional development and strengthen India’s alternative dispute resolution framework.
IICA is an autonomous institution under the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It serves as a national resource centre for research, policy support, capacity building and professional development in corporate governance, insolvency and regulatory frameworks.
