Telangana Council accepts Kavitha MLC resignation: Gutha Sukhender Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy on Wednesday confirmed that the Council had accepted the Kavitha MLC resignation following her personal request.

Addressing reporters, Reddy said the Council did not act immediately because the resignation was submitted in an emotional state. Therefore, he said, a cooling-off period was allowed before taking a final decision. “Such resignations are not accepted instantly, but we approved hers after due consideration,” he said.

Kavitha, who heads Telangana Jagruthi, had earlier stepped down from the Legislative Council. Reddy said the Council followed established procedures before approving the resignation.

Council chairman comments after Kavitha MLC resignation

Reacting to Kavitha’s reported plan to float a new political party after the Kavitha MLC resignation, Reddy said Telangana did not require additional political outfits. He observed that many parties formed in the past failed to sustain themselves for long. Hence, he said, surviving in the present political climate would be difficult.

On delimitation, Reddy cautioned against relying only on population-based criteria. He warned that such an approach could weaken representation for southern states, including Telangana.

Speaking on the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation policy, Reddy said there was no scope for corruption. According to him, the policy aimed to regularise industrial lands and reduce pollution across the state.

Reddy also opposed any attempt to remove Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the rural employment guarantee scheme. He said such a move would be inappropriate and stressed the national importance of Gandhi’s legacy.
