Telangana releases ₹277 crore to gram panchayats ahead of Sankranti

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday released ₹277 crore as Telangana gram panchayat funds to rural local bodies across the state, providing a financial boost ahead of the Sankranti festival.

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the disbursal during a high-level review meeting held at Praja Bhavan. He extended Sankranti greetings to the people and congratulated newly elected sarpanches and ward members. He said the timely release of Telangana gram panchayat funds reflected the government’s firm commitment to strengthening grassroots governance.

The Deputy Chief Minister said local bodies played a crucial role in delivering development at the village level. He added that adequate and timely financial support would help panchayats address local needs and execute development works effectively. According to him, empowering gram panchayats remained a key priority of the government.

Vikramarka also stressed the importance of proper utilisation of funds. He urged local representatives to ensure that the released amount benefited villages directly. He said transparency and accountability were essential for sustaining public trust in local governance.

Telangana gram panchayat funds released through finance department action

The finance department executed the release of funds immediately after the review meeting. Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania led the process and coordinated with officials to ensure prompt disbursal of the ₹277 crore allocation. The swift action enabled gram panchayats to plan development activities during the festive season.

Officials said the Telangana gram panchayat funds would support ongoing and new works related to rural infrastructure, sanitation, and basic civic amenities. They added that the allocation would help local bodies meet urgent expenditure requirements without delays.

The meeting also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support to rural local bodies. Senior officials encouraged panchayats to prioritise village-level development and make optimal use of available resources. They said regular fund releases would ensure uninterrupted progress of rural development programmes.

The government said it would continue to release funds to gram panchayats as per schedule. Officials noted that consistent financial support was essential to maintain momentum in rural development and improve service delivery across villages.
