Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday warned BRS leaders against inciting unrest, saying the public would not tolerate attempts to provoke violence or disturb peace for political gain.
Speaking at a felicitation programme for newly elected sarpanches in Sattupalli, the Minister said people were closely watching political conduct. He said leaders who tried to ignite tensions for personal benefit would face public backlash. “If you try to create fire pits to gain mileage, people will push you into them,” he said.
Ponguleti accused BRS leaders of making reckless statements after failing to accept defeat in recent gram panchayat elections. He said their remarks reflected frustration rather than public concern. The Minister alleged that similar provocation during the Telangana movement had cost innocent lives, while those who instigated violence escaped consequences.
He said the Congress government would not allow attempts to destabilise a peaceful Telangana in the name of district reorganisation. According to him, leaders who spoke of fresh agitations and sacrifices were ignoring the pain of ordinary families.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy says district reorganisation will be corrected
The Minister said the government would correct unscientific divisions of districts, revenue divisions and mandals created earlier. He said the process would include Assembly discussions, a committee headed by a retired judge and consultations with the public. The Cabinet, he added, would take a final decision in the people’s interest.
Referring to the gram panchayat election results, Ponguleti said the Congress had secured 69 per cent of seats, proving public support for the party. He said claims by BRS leaders after winning a limited number of posts were misleading and laughable.
He also predicted a similar outcome in upcoming municipal elections. Ponguleti said Congress could cross 80 per cent seats if current trends continued.
The programme was held at Rani Celebrations Convention Hall in Sattupalli under the chairmanship of MLA Matta Ragamayi Dayanand. Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, senior Congress leaders, party workers and supporters attended the event.
