Hyderabad: GHMC trifurcated after the Telangana government split the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into three civic bodies and appointed MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan as Special Officer for all three entities.
The decision followed the expiry of the existing GHMC council’s tenure. Consequently, the government reorganised the civic structure to streamline administration across the metropolitan region.
Under the new arrangement, authorities divided the civic body into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Officials said the move aimed to strengthen decentralised governance and improve civic services.
GHMC trifurcated as new commissioners assume charge
Alongside the restructuring, the state government issued separate orders appointing commissioners for each corporation. RV Karnan will continue as Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Meanwhile, G. Srijana, who earlier served as Additional Commissioner of GHMC, will head the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.
Similarly, T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, also an Additional Commissioner of GHMC, will serve as Commissioner of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. In addition, Jayesh Ranjan formally assumed charge as Special Officer on Wednesday morning at the GHMC headquarters.
The newly appointed commissioners also took charge of their respective corporations. Through this administrative overhaul, the government intends to ensure closer supervision and faster decision-making in civic administration.
