New Delhi: India BIOFACH 2026 participation as “Country of the Year” highlighted its growing global leadership in organic products at the trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority organised India’s presence under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The event opened on 10 February 2026 and drew global stakeholders in the organic sector. Through a large pavilion, India showcased its agricultural heritage and export strength.
At the inaugural ceremony, Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal addressed delegates from Germany and the European Commission. He said India ranks among the world’s leading producers of organic products. Moreover, he highlighted amendments to the National Programme for Organic Production that strengthened regulatory credibility.
He also referred to the conclusion of negotiations on the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement. According to him, the agreement will boost trade, improve supply chains and support sustainable growth. In addition, he urged early finalisation of a Mutual Recognition Agreement on organics between India and the EU.
India BIOFACH 2026 pavilion features 67 exhibitors
Shri Rajesh Agrawal inaugurated the India Country Pavilion in the presence of senior central and state officials. Curated by APEDA, the pavilion spans 1,074 square metres and hosts 67 co-exhibitors.
Participants include exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations, cooperatives, certification bodies and state agencies. The pavilion displays rice, oilseeds, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, essential oils, tea, coffee and millets.
India BIOFACH 2026 participation marks a 50% increase in area and exhibitors compared to earlier editions. As a result, India emerged as the top non-EU exhibitor and among the top five countries at the event.
Exhibitors from over 20 states, including Assam, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Telangana, are taking part. Furthermore, the pavilion features curated tastings of organic basmati rice dishes and spice-based preparations to showcase India’s culinary diversity.
Officials said India’s recognition as “Country of the Year” reflects steady growth in organic exports and rising global demand. Through focused initiatives, APEDA aims to help exporters respond to evolving international markets and strengthen India’s role in the global organic ecosystem.
