New Delhi: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Wednesday clarified that the AI-171 accident probe is still ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached.
In a statement issued by PIB Delhi, the bureau said media reports claiming that the investigation into Air India Flight AI-171 had been finalised were incorrect and speculative. It urged news organisations to avoid premature reporting.
The AAIB stated that it conducts investigations strictly under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025. It also follows India’s obligations under ICAO Annex 13. According to the bureau, aircraft accident investigations are technical and evidence-based processes aimed at identifying root causes and improving safety.
Earlier, the AAIB released a Preliminary Report containing factual details available at that stage. However, it said the Final Investigation Report will be published only after completion of the probe and in line with established international norms.
AAIB urges restraint during AI-171 accident probe
Meanwhile, the bureau cautioned that unverified reporting can cause unnecessary public anxiety. It added that such speculation can undermine the integrity of an ongoing professional investigation.
Therefore, the AAIB appealed to media organisations to exercise restraint until the AI-171 accident probe reaches its conclusion. It reiterated that the final report will include conclusions and safety recommendations.
The bureau also affirmed its commitment to transparency and procedural integrity. It said it remains focused on maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety throughout the investigation process.
