Congress takes control of Kamareddy municipality, Shabbir Ali attacks BJP MLA

Hyderabad: Congress took control of the Kamareddy municipality on Monday, and Government Advisor Mohammed Shabbir Ali announced that Uma Rani had won the Chairperson post with support from 22 Congress and 11 BRS councillors. Meanwhile, BRS secured the Vice-Chairperson post.

During a press conference in the district headquarters, Shabbir Ali urged all elected members to work together. He said political differences ended with the elections. Therefore, he called for united efforts to strengthen the Kamareddy municipality. He also asked councillors to ensure clean and transparent governance.

Moreover, Shabbir Ali stressed that he would not compromise on development. He noted that the government had sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for Nizamabad Smart City. In this context, he said he had requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to allocate Rs 500 crore for Kamareddy. The Chief Minister responded positively and assured Rs 300 crore in special funds, he added. Already, works worth Rs 200 crore are progressing in the town.

Development push in Kamareddy municipality

Addressing civic issues, Shabbir Ali said officials would resolve the long-pending drinking water problem by the end of March. At present, workers are laying internal pipelines across 80 kilometres. Soon, authorities will begin underground drainage works. In addition, the Deputy Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for an underground sub-station next month.

However, he clarified that officials would take up road widening only after providing proper rehabilitation to street vendors. According to him, development must protect livelihoods.

At the same time, Shabbir Ali launched a sharp attack on BJP MLA Venkata Ramana Reddy and called him a “corruption king”. He said it was ironic that the MLA often spoke about corruption. Further, he alleged that during the MLA’s tenure, authorities handed over land collected from farmers for a government degree college to Aurora College. He also claimed that the institution raised loans of Rs 18 crore on that land and asked whether that did not amount to corruption.

In response to criticism, Shabbir Ali described his 45-year political career as an open book. He stated that no case had ever been registered against him. He further alleged that he had given the MLA political entry by issuing an MLC B-form in the past. Later, he claimed, the MLA “sold the ticket and ran away”.

Finally, he warned the MLA against making repeated allegations and said, “If you spit at the sky, it falls on your own face.” He also cautioned newly elected councillors in the Kamareddy municipality to act transparently. Otherwise, he said, the government would take strict action against anyone found involved in corruption.
