New Delhi: The Indian Navy inaugurated the MILAN Village at Visakhapatnam on February 15 as part of Exercise MILAN 2026. Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, presided over the ceremony.
He formally opened the MILAN Village for participating navies. Thereafter, he toured the facilities created for delegates. Officials said the space aims to promote global maritime engagement.
The Navy set up the MILAN Village at the Eastern Naval Command to host personnel from over 70 countries. It serves as an experience zone designed to build camaraderie and friendship. Moreover, it enables interaction beyond formal military exchanges.
A central highlight is its focus on cultural exchange. Organisers scheduled live vocal performances and traditional folk dances. Cultural ensembles will also perform during the event. In addition, stalls display naval souvenirs, handicrafts and handloom products from across India.
Visitors can sample regional Indian cuisine at dedicated counters. Thus, the venue blends cultural diplomacy with professional engagement.

MILAN Village anchors maritime outreach in Visakhapatnam
In his remarks, Vice Admiral Bhalla said the MILAN Village reflects camaraderie and cultural connection. He added that it complements structured naval cooperation. Furthermore, he noted that Visakhapatnam is hosting the International Fleet Review 2026, MILAN 2026 and the IONS Conclave of Chiefs in close succession.
According to him, this convergence marks a significant moment in India’s maritime outreach. It also strengthens cooperative engagement with partner navies. Therefore, the events underline India’s expanding role in the Indo-Pacific.

The Harbour and Sea Phases will feature anti-submarine warfare drills and air defence operations. They will also include search and rescue and cooperative security missions. As a result, the exercise will reinforce a shared commitment to free and open seas.
Officials described MILAN 2026 as an operational expression of the Prime Minister’s MAHASAGAR vision. Finally, as the cultural centrepiece of the exercise, the MILAN Village embodies the theme “Camaraderie, Cooperation, Collaboration” and highlights collective maritime partnerships.
