New Delhi: India set a Guinness World Record after receiving 250,946 AI responsibility pledges within 24 hours during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Tuesday.
The record recognised the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours.” The pledges were collected between February 16 and 17. Guinness World Records officially verified the achievement at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The nationwide campaign was launched under the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with Intel India. It invited citizens to commit to ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence through a dedicated online portal. Participants reflected on principles such as data privacy, transparency, accountability and tackling misinformation.
Moreover, individuals who completed the AI responsibility pledges received a digital badge. They also gained access to curated AI learning pathways. The initiative aimed to promote a human-centric and trustworthy AI ecosystem across the country.
Addressing the media, Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for engaging youth in responsible AI use. He said the government reached out to colleges, faculty members and students to drive participation. He praised over 250,000 students who took part in the campaign.
AI responsibility pledges surpass initial target
The Minister noted that the campaign had initially targeted 5,000 pledges. However, participation crossed 250,000 within a day. Therefore, he described the response as a strong sign of public awareness and digital responsibility.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology attended the announcement. Representatives from the IndiaAI Mission and Intel were also present. A Guinness World Records adjudicator formally confirmed the title.
Vaishnaw said the milestone reflected India’s commitment to shaping global AI discourse with ethics and inclusion at its core. Furthermore, he stated that responsible adoption must guide future innovation.
Officials said the record-setting AI responsibility pledges demonstrate citizen-led engagement in emerging technologies. They added that the initiative reinforces India’s push for accountable and inclusive digital growth.
