Telangana Budget Session to begin February 26, budget on February 28

Hyderabad: The Telangana Budget Session is set to commence from February 26, with the annual financial statement for 2026-27 scheduled for presentation in the Assembly on February 28.

The state government has initiated preparations for the session. However, the Cabinet will review the proposal on February 23 and take a final decision. Until then, the schedule remains subject to formal approval.

Meanwhile, the Finance Department has completed preliminary groundwork. Officials have held internal consultations and incorporated inputs from various departments. As a result, the annual budget proposals are now in the final stages of preparation.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present the budget for the financial year 2026-27. The document will outline estimated receipts and expenditure. It will also provide sector-wise allocations.

Sources indicated that allocations may exceed those of the previous year. In particular, the government is likely to prioritise welfare schemes and infrastructure development. However, exact figures will become clear only after the budget is tabled in the House.

Telangana Budget Session may run for 15 days

The government is considering a 15-day sitting to enable detailed discussions. During this period, members are expected to debate demands for grants and raise constituency-specific issues. Consequently, the Telangana Budget Session could witness extensive deliberations.

In addition, the ruling party plans to respond to concerns raised by the opposition. It also intends to introduce and seek passage of key bills during the sittings.

Under legislative procedure, the Assembly must approve the budget before expenditure can be drawn from the Consolidated Fund of the State. Therefore, the House will examine the financial proposals in stages following the presentation.

The Telangana Budget Session will conclude after the completion of debates and passage of the Appropriation Bill, as mandated by constitutional provisions.
