India joins Pax Silica to deepen US tech cooperation

New Delhi: India formally joined the Pax Silica coalition at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, strengthening strategic technology and supply chain cooperation with the United States.

Senior leaders from both countries attended the signing ceremony. The move marked a key step in securing the full technology stack that will power the AI-driven global economy. The Pax Silica coalition seeks to bring together trusted nations to secure critical minerals, semiconductor fabrication and advanced AI systems.

The initiative aims to reduce overconcentration in global supply chains and prevent economic coercion. In addition, it promotes democratic governance of emerging technologies. Officials said the framework would support open and resilient technology ecosystems.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw described the development as more than a ceremonial event. He said India’s growth since Independence demonstrated the power of compounding progress. He highlighted that Indian engineers are designing advanced two-nanometer chips. Moreover, he noted that the semiconductor industry could require nearly one million skilled professionals.
