NIELIT to set up Quantum & AI University campus in Amaravati

New Delhi: NIELIT Quantum & AI University Amaravati will soon become a reality after the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Andhra Pradesh at the India AI Impact Summit.

The agreement aims to establish India’s first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence university campus in Amaravati. The initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s vision to create a globally competitive quantum innovation hub under the proposed Andhra Quantum Mission.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, NIELIT Director General M. M. Tripathi and APSQM Mission Director C. V. Sridhar.

NIELIT Quantum & AI University Amaravati to anchor deep-tech ecosystem

Under this framework, the Amaravati campus will function within NIELIT’s Deemed-to-be University ecosystem. However, it will stand out as India’s first institution exclusively focused on quantum technologies and artificial intelligence.

Officials said the campus will offer undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes in frontier domains. These include quantum computing, quantum algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum communication, cybersecurity, quantum hardware and high-performance computing.

In addition, the university will host advanced research laboratories and industry-linked Centres of Excellence. It will also support deep-tech incubation, entrepreneurship and global academic collaborations.

Speaking at the event, Dr. M. M. Tripathi described the initiative as a milestone in India’s deep-tech journey. He said the campus would emerge as a national centre of excellence for research and innovation in quantum and AI domains.

C. V. Sridhar noted that the university would help converge quantum science, artificial intelligence and industry-aligned skilling. This approach, he said, will build a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

NIELIT, an autonomous scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has played a key role in skill development and digital empowerment. With 56 centres, over 750 accredited institutes and thousands of facilitation centres nationwide, it has trained millions in emerging technologies.

The upcoming Amaravati campus is expected to strengthen India’s leadership in next-generation technologies. By combining academic rigour with industry integration, the NIELIT Quantum & AI University Amaravati initiative aims to position India at the forefront of global deep-tech education and research.
