Hyderabad heavy rain alert issued across city

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad heavy rain alert was issued after intense showers lashed several parts of the city from midnight, prompting authorities to suspend power supply in multiple areas as a precaution.

Heavy rain affected Secunderabad, Basheer Bagh, Alwal, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta and Manikonda, among other localities. The downpour continued intermittently through the early hours. As a result, road visibility dropped and local movement slowed across key stretches.

Consequently, officials advised residents to remain indoors unless travel was unavoidable. Traffic police also monitored vulnerable junctions to prevent congestion in waterlogged areas. Meanwhile, civic teams inspected low-lying colonies to assess any risk of flooding.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Department said light to moderate rainfall was likely across GHMC limits over the next few hours. It added that northern and western zones could receive comparatively higher rainfall. Accordingly, the department released a rainfall intensity map marking vulnerable pockets.

Hyderabad heavy rain alert warns of continued showers

The Hyderabad heavy rain alert followed sustained cloud activity over the region. Officials stated that precautionary power cuts were implemented in select neighbourhoods to avoid electrical hazards during the downpour. Therefore, several residents experienced temporary outages.

Authorities urged motorists to avoid waterlogged stretches and drive cautiously. In addition, they asked citizens to stay away from open drains and construction sites during heavy rain. Emergency response teams remained on standby to address rain-related incidents within GHMC limits.

Although showers persisted for several hours, officials reported no major casualties at the time of issuing the advisory. However, they said they would continue to monitor weather developments closely and release further updates depending on rainfall intensity.
