Jitendra Singh backs double engine momentum for Keralam

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said double engine momentum between the Centre and the State can fast-track Keralam’s progress and align it with India’s broader development vision.

He addressed a programme organised by the Institute of Engineers along with several NGOs in Thiruvananthapuram. The event discussed a roadmap for the State’s development up to 2036 in line with Vision Bharat goals.

Dr Jitendra Singh said Keralam stands at a decisive moment. He noted its strengths in education, scientific aptitude and coastal resources. Therefore, he urged integration of State priorities with national missions in science, technology and the blue economy.

Referring to the Centre’s commitment, he said the Union Cabinet adopted the name “Keralam” in place of “Kerala” in its first meeting at Seva Teerth. According to him, the move reflected respect for the State’s cultural and linguistic identity.

Double engine momentum to drive coastal and blue economy growth

The Minister said recent Union Budgets made provisions to strengthen coastal infrastructure and fisheries. In addition, allocations support marine resources and blue economy initiatives such as the Deep Ocean Mission. Consequently, he said these measures can unlock growth along Keralam’s long coastline.

He added that coastal States are well placed to benefit from science-led marine exploration and sustainable resource management. However, he stressed that effective coordination remains essential. When policies move in harmony, double engine momentum can accelerate outcomes for citizens.

He said several Central schemes already target key sectors. Yet, their full impact depends on seamless implementation and constructive cooperation at all levels of governance.

Former Union Minister Shri Muralidharan also addressed the gathering. He said successive State governments did not adequately prioritise basic citizen needs. He called for greater accountability, especially in healthcare services for weaker sections.

Dr Jitendra Singh expressed confidence that with a clear roadmap and accountable governance, Keralam can move ahead at an accelerated pace. He said the State can play a significant role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
