New Delhi: The Centre alerted all States after reports of the Khamenei death emerged amid escalating Israel–US–Iran hostilities, warning of possible communal tensions and protests across the country.
The Union Home Ministry wrote to State police chiefs and directed them to remain vigilant. It cited the war-like situation in West Asia and cautioned that certain groups could try to disturb public order. Therefore, the Ministry asked officers to increase field surveillance and deploy additional forces where required.
The Ministry also instructed police to monitor religious gatherings and places of worship closely. It warned that radical speakers sympathetic to Iran could deliver provocative speeches. Consequently, authorities stepped up preventive checks and intensified local intelligence collection.
Meanwhile, the Centre ordered stronger coordination among intelligence agencies. It told officials to share inputs in real time and act quickly on any warning signs linked to the Khamenei death. In addition, States were asked to prepare rapid response teams to contain flare-ups.
Khamenei death sparks protests and tighter policing
Protests erupted in Hyderabad, parts of Karnataka, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Police said some miscreants might exploit the gatherings to incite violence. As a result, officers increased patrolling in sensitive areas and placed key locations under watch.
Separately, the Centre continued to track developments in West Asia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Sunday night to review the situation. During the meeting, officials assessed security preparedness and discussed contingency plans.
Authorities said they would maintain constant vigilance and act firmly against any attempt to disrupt peace following the Khamenei death.
