New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India completed its biometric update drive in over 1,03,000 schools, enabling around 1.2 crore children to update their Aadhaar details on campus.
UIDAI launched the mission-mode exercise in September 2025 after integrating its system with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus application. This integration allowed officials to track the status of Mandatory Biometric Updates among school students. As a result, authorities identified children due for updates and organised camps within schools.
Regional and State Offices coordinated closely with Education Departments, district administrations and schools to execute the biometric update drive. Moreover, UIDAI deployed at least 4,000 machines to carry out the exercise. It is now augmenting the number to accelerate coverage.
The drive focuses on children aged 7 to 15 years. Keeping biometric details updated helps them authenticate identity for scholarships, government schemes and competitive examinations such as NEET, JEE and CUET.
Biometric update drive offered free for one year
UIDAI made the Mandatory Biometric Update free of cost for children in the 7–15 age group from October 1, 2025 for a period of one year. Therefore, parents and guardians can complete the update without paying any fee during this window.
In addition to school camps, children can visit Aadhaar enrolment centres and Aadhaar Seva Kendras across the country. Meanwhile, UIDAI continues to run the biometric update drive in mission mode for six months nationwide.
Officials said the initiative improved access and convenience by bringing services directly to school campuses. Consequently, millions of children benefited from timely updates to their Aadhaar records.
