Hyderabad: The Kamareddy tragedy shocked Telangana after an auto driver allegedly drowned his three minor daughters in a lake. Congress leader and Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir later visited the grieving family to offer support.
Police said the accused faced severe financial distress and addiction problems. On March 6, he reported that his daughters were missing. However, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in his statements.
Further interrogation revealed disturbing details. According to police, the father took the children to a nearby lake and drowned them one after another. Authorities arrested him and remanded him to judicial custody on murder charges.
The incident triggered deep grief across Kamareddy town. Residents expressed shock and anger over the killing of the three sisters aged eight, six and five.
Kamareddy tragedy sparks call for social responsibility
Shabbir Ali visited the family on Monday evening. He met the children’s mother, who lost all three daughters in the tragedy.
He expressed deep sorrow over the incident. According to him, the tragedy highlights the dangers of poverty, social neglect and lack of timely support.
Addressing those present, he said society must recognise distress within communities. Early support, he said, could prevent such devastating outcomes.
He also urged people to rethink the way charity is practised. Occasional donations, he said, cannot solve long-term problems.
Instead, communities should help poor families build stable livelihoods. Helping someone purchase an auto-rickshaw or start a small business can change their lives.
Financial assistance and community response
During the visit, Shabbir Ali announced financial assistance of ₹25,000 for the bereaved mother. Local councillors and community leaders also contributed support.
Several councillors pledged ₹5,000 each. Others made smaller contributions during the gathering.
By the end of the meeting, the collected amount crossed approximately ₹1.06 lakh. The funds were handed over to the family for immediate support.
Shabbir Ali advised the family to keep the money safely. He said it should support the mother’s survival and future needs.
He also urged officials to explore livelihood opportunities for her. Providing stable housing and income support, he said, would help rebuild her life.
Meanwhile, he appreciated the police for solving the case quickly. Officers worked overnight to trace the accused and uncover the truth behind the children’s disappearance.
Residents also demanded strict punishment for the accused. Many attended the condolence gathering to express solidarity with the grieving mother.
For many people in Kamareddy, the incident raised serious concerns. Poverty, mental stress, addiction and weak support systems remain major challenges.
Shabbir Ali said society must treat this incident as a warning. Ignoring distress within communities can lead to irreversible tragedies.
