Hyderabad: Damodar Rajanarsimha said Aarogyasri services expanded to cover 9.45 lakh beneficiaries since the Congress government assumed office, highlighting significant growth in healthcare access across Telangana.
During the Assembly’s Question Hour, the minister addressed concerns regarding dues and service delivery. He emphasised that the government has actively strengthened the scheme. As a result, more people now benefit from affordable medical treatment.
Aarogyasri services expanded with increased coverage
The minister stated that earlier administrations served around 2.5 lakh beneficiaries annually. However, the current government has increased that number to nearly 4 lakh per year. Therefore, the scheme now reaches a much wider population.
Moreover, the expansion reflects a focused effort to improve public healthcare systems. In addition, authorities have extended services to underserved and remote districts, ensuring equitable access.
Higher payments improve hospital participation
The government has significantly increased payments to network hospitals. Previously, hospitals received about Rs 52 crore per month. Now, the administration releases nearly Rs 89 crore monthly.
Because of this financial boost, hospitals can operate more efficiently under the scheme. Consequently, more private hospitals have joined the Aarogyasri network, strengthening service delivery.
Furthermore, the government has been clearing pending dues in a phased manner. This approach has helped rebuild trust between hospitals and the administration.
Aarogyasri services expanded as dues decline
The minister noted that the previous government left behind Rs 600 crore in Aarogyasri dues and Rs 130 crore under the EHS scheme. Since December 2023, the current government has paid over Rs 2,400 crore.
As a result, outstanding dues have reduced significantly and now stand at around Rs 250 crore. Therefore, financial stability within the scheme has improved.
He also dismissed opposition claims that hospitals were refusing treatment under Aarogyasri. Instead, he said participation has increased steadily.
Expansion of hospital network and reach
The number of empanelled hospitals has grown from 330 to 537. This increase demonstrates rising confidence in the scheme.
Additionally, the government has expanded services to districts such as Mulugu and Narayanpet. Consequently, patients in remote regions now receive better access to quality healthcare.
Overall, Aarogyasri services expanded continue to remain a top priority. With improved funding, wider reach and stronger hospital participation, the scheme is playing a crucial role in strengthening Telangana’s healthcare system.
